B Walk 10-May-2026
Leader: Peter Gravestock
Distance (miles): 8.00
Ascent (feet): 520
Difficulty: Moderate
Ripley Castle
Description:
Like the A walk, we walk past the castle to join the Nidderdale Way and continue on it to the small village of Clint. This 2 mile stretch is almost all uphill, but it's not too steep and we have plenty of time. The good news is we will have done virtually all the uphill work by this point. We continue west across fields before dropping down to Birstwith, having had a morning break at some point along the way. Here we cross the bridge and turn left to rejoin the Nidderdale Way, but now heading in the opposite direction. The path stays close to the river Nidd and, while a good path, is narrow in places, so walking poles may be helpful. Just before Hampsthwaite we leave the river and have a short stretch of road walking (care needed) into the village for our lunch stop on the green. The Joiners' Arms pub is close by. After lunch it's 3 miles on good paths and tracks with a few more sections close to the river back to the start. There are tea rooms and a pub (the Boar's Head) available as we await the return of the A walkers.
