B Walk 04-May-2025
Leader: Peter Gravestock
Distance (miles): 8.50
Ascent (feet): 570
Difficulty: Moderate
Masham/Ripon
Description:
We start in the centre of Ripon, where there are toilets, and walk through the town to the river Skell. We continue beside the river and along tracks until we enter the grounds of Studley Royal and the valley of the seven bridges (although there are now only five). Continuing through the grounds, we pass by the lake and then uphill to the visitor centre for our lunch break.
There are toilets and picnic tables at the centre and National Trust members will have a bit of time to view the gardens.
After lunch we head downhill through the deer park to the village of Studley Roger, passing St Mary's church on the way. Tracks then take us to the outskirts of Ripon, after which it is a fairly urbanised walk back to the town centre. We should have time in Ripon before catching the coach.
