B Walk 05-May-2024
Leader: Julie Ryder/John Elliott
Distance (miles): 7.00
Ascent (feet): 1145
Difficulty: Hard
Hebden Bridge to Heptinsall
Description:
This walk is classed as Hard as there is a 45-minute ascent through the wooded valley. Although the terrain we are walking on is not steep, it’s a constant gentle slope uphill, the rest is either flat or downhill to compensate.
We start from the Centre of Hebden bridge where we follow a canal path for approximately 2 miles. From there we start the 45-minute ascent past Mulcture Hall up the wooded valley on, at first a tarmac track, then a footpath with views that are worth the effort. We will stop for a coffee break approximately halfway up the path.
Once at the top of the valley we have reached our highest point (1119ft) and then it is a short walk to the pub (New Delight Inn) in Colden following the Calderdale Way. From the pub the walk back is all downhill on a footpath that runs through Colden Clough and back to the canal at Hebden Bridge. From there it is a short flat walk back to the town Centre.
Walking sticks are recommended.
