Leader: Sheila Grice
Distance (miles): 7.50
Ascent (feet): 960
Difficulty: Moderate
Fox House and Padley Gorge
Description:
A lovely circular walk starting and finishing on the Longshaw Estate. If it’s a clear day we’ll get some fantastic views towards Eyam Moor and over towards Kinder Edge and Hallam Moors. We’ll make our way through the Longshaw Estate and head down to Burbage Brook to follow the path down through Padley Gorge, an idyllic wooded ravine of special scientific interest. It is home to some endangered species of birds and rare plants. Please be aware that the path will be very muddy in places, with rocks and tree roots to negotiate along the way. Sturdy footwear is a must and poles advisable if you have them. It will be challenging underfoot but we can take our time.
The path will take us down to Grindleford station and we will have our lunch stop at the café. Suitably refreshed we will head out of Grindleford and take a steady climb up through Oak’s Wood and then over towards White Edge Moor.
Our lunch stop will be at The Grouse Inn. After lunch we’ll take the path over White Edge Moor, past White Edge Lodge and then through the Longshaw Estate to finish at Longshaw Lodge.
