B Walk 23-Mar-2025
Leader: John Elliott
Distance (miles): 8.25
Ascent (feet): 600
Difficulty: Moderate
Cutthroat Bridge
Description:
We start from Fairholmes car park where there are toilets and a kiosk selling teas/coffees and snacks.
The walk begins with a steep climb from the carpark (691ft) through the woods up to Lockerbrook Outdoor Centre (1190ft). This is the only steep climb of the walk, and the views are worth it. The rest of the walk is either downhill or flat around the reservoir.
From the Outdoor Centre we continue up a gentle track to Woodcock Coppice where we turn left and follow the tree line along Hagg side and then out onto Bridge-end Pasture (1276ft), which is the high point of the ridge with amazing views of the reservoir and surrounding hills. It’s then downhill from there, past Crook hill and down to Crookhill Farm and onto the road where we cross the bridge and walk to the Ladybower Inn.
From the pub we return to Fairholmes car park along the same route as the A Walkers. It’s about 2.5 miles and is a gentle walk back along the track, first to Ashopton and then along the side of the reservoir.
If time permits at the end of the walk, we may decide to walk up and have a look at the Derwent Dam or use the time for a well-earned cuppa!
