B Walk 03-Nov-2024
Leader: Sheila Grice
Distance (miles): 7.50
Ascent (feet): 394
Difficulty: Easy
Bakewell
Description:
The B walk starts from the Bakewell showground, following the River Wye before reaching the head of the Monsal Trail. We will follow the Monsal Trail, a popular route for cyclists and a good track for walkers, calling in along the way at Hassop Station for our coffee stop.
The route continues until just past Thornbridge Hall, where we will leave the Monsal Trail and drop down into the pretty village of Ashford in the Water.
Lunch stop will be at the Bulls Head in Ashford. From Ashford we will follow the course of the River Wye, passing Lumford Mill, back to Bakewell.
Useful information:
It is likely to be muddy, if we’ve had rain, so gaiters are advisable.
There are one or two short stretches of path which could be tricky if you’re not very sure footed, due to rocks/stones and mud, so pole/s would be useful.
Toilets will be available in Bakewell before we start and when we finish. There is a charge of 20p, so bring some change. There are also toilets at Hassop Station and Ashford in the Water.
