A Walk 06-Jul-2025
Leader: John Elliott
Distance (miles): 11.80
Ascent (feet): 1157
Difficulty: Moderate
Melbourne, Derbyshire
Description:
We start from Melbourne where the coach will drop off the A party before taking the B party on to Ticknall. There are no toilets at the start of the walk, but it’s a 20 min walk to Staunton Harold Reservoir where there are toilets. From the reservoir we walk to Calke Abbey where we will have our coffee break. From Calke Abbey it’s a gentle walk up through Southwood and on past Heath Farm. Many of the paths from Pistern Hill have not been walked in a while so I would suggest wearing long trousers and something to cover your arms in this section. It’s then a walk through the woods past Sharp’s Bottom to the Admiral Rodney pub in Hartshorne. From the pub it’s a fairly flat walk through the woods to Foremark Reservoir, where we walk around the eastern shore and out past Bendall’s Farm. From there its about 1.5km on an undulating path to Ticknall where the bus will pick us up.
