A Walk 04-May-2025 Leader: Alan Taylor
Distance (miles): 11.15   Ascent (feet): 827  Difficulty: Moderate

Masham/Ripon

Description:

Masham and Middleham are beautiful, interesting and historic areas for our A walk this month. Starting from the market square in Masham we cross Masham bridge, passing the Black Sheep brewery and walk alongside the River Ure for the first 1.5 miles, enjoying the wonderful views. We briefly leave the river in the Low Ellington area but re-join the river passing the remains of Jervaulx Abbey (founded in the year 1156). We will take a refreshment break at Cover Bridge where there is a 16thC Inn. Again following the river, this time the River Cover, we enter Middleham near the castle where we will hopefully get time to explore this lovely village before joining the coach for the return journey.
