A Walk 19-Jan-2025
Leader: John Elliott
Distance (miles): 11.40
Ascent (feet): 1029
Difficulty: Moderate
Chatsworth
Description:
We start from the car park in Baslow where there are toilets.
The walk begins with a nice flat walk through Chatsworth Park towards the house. We then turn right over the river and into Edensor where we plan on visiting the church to see the gravestone of John F Kennedy’s sister Kathleen.
From there it is a steady climb past Maud’s Plantation and through Carlton Pastures to our coffee stop just before the golf course in Bakewell.
We then pick up the Monsal Trail for about 1km before turning left up to Coombs Farm and a flat track to our pub stop in Rowsley.
From Rowsley we walk back on ourselves a little before turning right to follow the Derwent Valley Heritage Way to Carlton Lees where if time permits, we may be able to visit the garden centre.
From there it’s a flat walk along the river back to Baslow with stunning views of Chatsworth House.
I would advise bringing walking poles.
