Distance (miles): 8.00   Ascent (feet): 696  Difficulty: Moderate

YORKSHIRE SCULPURE PARK CIRCULAR via EMLEY VILLAGE
Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Description:

We start our walk in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and will make our way through the grounds to pick up the Dearne Way footpath. As we pass through the park you will have the opportunity to see a few of the many exhibits which are dotted around. We follow the Dearne Way along the juvenile River Dearne towards Clayton West until it crosses the Kirklees Way, at which point we leave the trail and head towards Gillcar Farm, Emley Old Hall and on to Emley Park. Frank Lane will take us up to Leys Farm and from here it is just a short distance into Emley where we will take our lunch stop at the White Horse, an Ossett Brewery pub. Please note that THE PUB NO LONGER SERVES FOOD, so make sure you take a packed lunch. We are welcome to use the beer garden to eat our sandwiches. After lunch we head out of Emley in an easterly direction, crossing Little Dyke and passing through White Cross. Our route takes us past Gillcar Farm and from here we retrace our steps along the Dearne Way and back to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The route will take us through farmland and farmyards and there will be mud, so gaiters and walking poles are highly recommended!
