C Walk 02-Jun-2019 Leader: Judy Gilbert
Distance (miles): 6.50   Ascent (feet):   Difficulty: Easy

FAIRHOLMES CIRCULAR
Ladybower

Description:

We start with refreshments at the Fairholmes Visitor Centre, and then take the scenic path leading southwards close to the reservoir. Arriving at the A57, we cross the bridge over the reservoir. Here there is the option to walk to the Ladybower Dam, to see the two Bellmouth Overflows (locally known as the Plugholes). These take any overflow from the reservoir, down to the River Derwent below the dam. They are interesting structures, that I have not seen elsewhere. After this optional half mile diversion, we return to the A57 and walk to the Ladybower Inn. After our lunch stop, we return along easy tracks on the eastern side of the reservoir, and cross to Fairholmes V.C. below the Derwent Dam.
