B Walk 05-May-2019 Leader: Sheila Grice
Distance (miles): 9.00   Ascent (feet):   Difficulty: Esay

BAKEWELL-MONSAL HEAD-BAKEWELL CIRCULAR
Monsal-Matlock

Description:

Once off the coach in Bakewell we head through fields for the start of the Monsal Trail. Once on the trail, we head in the direction of Monsal Head. A coffee stop will be made by Hassop Station and members are welcome to use the cafe facilities, although it probably won't be a lengthy stop. We continue along the trail, taking a diversion through pastureland to visit the pretty hamlet of Little Longstone. From here we head a short distance to the scenic Monsal Head where we will take our lunch stop, and enjoy refreshments at the Monsal Head Hotel or café. After lunch we leave the Monsal Trail and head through fields, along paths and tracks back to Bakewell via the pretty village of Ashford-in-the-Water. This is an easy walk which is mainly flat. There is a short gentle climb up steps onto the start of the Monsal Trail and one or two gentle uphill sections along the route, but no major hills.
