A Walk 14-Jul-2019 Leader: Paul Gardner
Distance (miles): 10.40   Ascent (feet): 1300  Difficulty: Moderate

Castleton CIRCULAR via Peak Forest
Derbyshire (T.B.C.)

Description:

We start todays walk by ascending Cave Dale (walking sticks advisable) giving us excellent views as we rise past Peveril Castle. We leave the Limestone Way at Old Moor and pro-ceed to the heavily quarried and dramatic Eldon Hill. We then turn towards Nether Barn and on to Beytonsdale. Our lunch stop is at the Devonshire Arms in the village of Peak Forest. After lunch it’s on towards Dam Hall, to then ascend Oxtow Rake to re-join the Limestone Way. Soon we are back on Old Moor, this time on a different route past Rowter Farm. We emerge at the head of Winnats Pass, our route back into Castleton. An interesting 'figure of eight' route which provides exten-sive views and varied terrain, including a mem-orable finish through Winnats Pass.
