CASTLETON-CAVE DALE-LIMESTONE WAY-ELDON HILL-SPARROWPIT-RUSHUP EDGE-BLUE JOHN CAVERN-CASTLETON
Castleton Round– Derbyshire

Description:

Our walk today starts and finishes in the very popular High Peak village of Castleton. We leave the village via the path up through Cave Dale to join the Limestone Way path towards Old Moor but soon turn in westerly direction towards Bull Pit. Here we make a southerly turn down into Perry Dale and then along to Sparowpit for our lunch stop at The Wanted Inn, a unique pub we’ve visited quite of-ten in the past. An unusual fact about the village is that “the watershed between rivers running east into the North Sea and west into the Irish Sea runs almost exactly through the village”. After lunch we head up towards Rushup Hall and then the highest point of today’s walk along Rushup Edge, “Lords Seat” being the high point at almost 1800ft. We continue along the ridge before making our descent to Winnats Head Farm and then via the famous caverns of Blue John and Speedwell and then finally onto the finish of our walk back in Castleton.
