Ripon– North Yorkshire

Description:

Most of our walk today follows part of the route of the Ripon Rowel Walk, which is a 50 mile circular walk in the area round the ancient city of Ripon, following paths, tracks and bridleways in the area. We start to the south of RIPON and skirt the Quarry Moor Nature Reserve before passing the hamlet of Studley Roger and then into the STUDLEY ROYAL Deer Park, where we may see some deer. We continue by the lake at Studley Royal to enter the pretty valley through which flows the RIVER SKELL. We continue on tracks to pass by MARKENFIELD HALL, a 13th century Medieval House surrounded by a moat, and along tracks and fields to reach the village of WORMALD GREEN, before continuing along tracks to reach the village of BISHOP MONKTON, here we take our lunch stop at the Lamb and Flag Inn, after which we continue across the fields to pick up the Ripon Canal on our way to Littlethorpe, here on your right you will see Yorkshire’s ‘Garden’ racecourse. As we pass the road into Ripon, we will leave the canal, and still on the Rowel walk we wind our way into Ripon, passing the magnificent Ripon Cathedral, before meeting our coach, adjacent to the bus sta-tion in RIPON.
