CALKE ABBEY PARK and BREEDON ON THE HILL—circular walk
Calke Abbey

Description:

We start our walk today at the Visitor centre at the Staunton Harold reservoir, and walk along the north western shoreline of the reservoir, before passing through the Calke Park Nature reserve to reach Calke Abbey, a stately home, owned by the National Trust. We continue to walk through the estate and pass the southern point of the reservoir to reach Springwood Farm. We continue along paths to reach the village of Breedon on the Hill and our lunch stop at the Hollybush Inn. After lunch we make a climb up the Hill to reach the church that the village is famous for, offering extensive views over the surrounding countryside. We continue along paths to reach the Pool and the village of Mebourne, taking paths and tracks to return to our starting point at the Visitor Centre to re-join the coach.
